In-Situ Work at Mei Stone

Before the First Mark
Nothing was asked of her.
No subject waited.
No finished form stood ahead.
She entered and listened with her eyes
to the walls, the sea,
the light crossing the island.
From that looking,
the painting found its subject,
its measure,
and the place where it wished to stop.
The Grace of Distance
Our presence was a kind of absence:
we opened a space,
protected a span of time,
and then withdrew.
Some works are completed
not by being directed,
but by being allowed to become.
